He Whānau Mārama Trust is a charity based in Kaitaia and was established to acknowledge and ensure the holistic development of tamariki and their whānau is supported, enhanced, embraced and nurtured.
The current trustees, whakapapa to Te Hiku, have served families of Kaitaia and the Far North through their mahi and voluntary service over the years. Their collective goal is to provide opportunities for families and tamariki to become successful leaders for whanau and their community.
One of He Whānau Mārama Trust's main projects is their youth-driven kaupapa called Shine On Kaitaia. The Shine On Kaitaia team is made up of like-minded individuals, young and not so young! They share a vision where young people lead positive events and projects for the betterment of the community which, while building meaningful relationships, will create social cohesion and change towards a positive future.
The Trust also contributes to community development by assessing areas needing improvement about which local people share their views. Community surveys and consultations are collated and general feedback is drafted into reports. These are submitted to the Council and Te Hiku Community Board, making the views of the community known.
By focusing on positive community interaction and promoting social cohesion, we believe this impacts on the overall well being
of the community, where whānau feel supported and cared about.
